The Moms Behind Pangea Organics

In honor of Mother’s Day - here is a tribute to some of the moms behind Pangea Organics and how we have been taught to care for ourselves and the world.

Founder Joshua Onysko says about his mom: “My Momma already had her hands full with two boys and then I came along. I was constantly getting in trouble at school starting in 1st grade and my Mom was always defending me because she knew I saw the world a bit differently. She was constantly fighting for me because she knew I didn't learn like most people and I needed to take my own path in this world. She taught me how to cook and bake when I was 7 and I've been cooking and baking ever since and it's been the way I've built community all over the world. It was 23 years ago when I stopped in to visit her on my way to moving to India when she had bought a coffee table book on how to make handmade soap, who knew how much that book and our little soap making project before I left would change the direction of my life. So grateful for my Momma and the gifts she's given me, thank you for having patience with me. I love you! Happy Mothers day!”

"I believe that so many of us are mothers to others throughout our life – whether we have human children, nephews and nieces, fur babies, or even just those in our life who need our love and a guiding light.

My grandma Ann was the mother figure in my life who showed me what true unconditional love, kindness, and generosity meant – she was always the rock of the family; there for anyone who needed support emotionally or financially. Her smile and laugh lit up the universe around her, and people naturally gravitated to her and always felt comfortable being themselves in her presence. She taught me about taking pleasure in the simple things, and I loved spending summers with her and picking blackberries straight off her bushes and eating them in the warm sunlight – I’ll never forget that feeling.

She also was the first person in my life to teach me about beauty rituals – she’d spend what seemed like an eternity in the bathroom each day and when she finally opened the door, steam and a burst of the loveliest scents would waft through the whole house. I realized later in life that this was the one time of day she allowed herself to indulge in self-care, without the pressures and distractions of everyone else in the family who relied on her so much.

My grandma Ann passed away last year after a long battle with Alzheimer’s, and yet every day I think of her and am so grateful for everything she imparted in me as a mother, mentor, and friend to others.
